Art & Style Exhibition

 

The exhibition “Art & Style 2003” was arranged by “The SAEL Movement (Synergist for Advancement in Education Leadership)”, as another leading step, enabling it to work, investigate and improve the social, planning and education sector in Pakistan.
 
This exhibition was primarily aimed to promote “creativity” and “innovation” among students and to provide them with an opportunity to exhibit their skills. The opportunity was availed by those young students who possess creative and innovative competences but have not been in the spotlight of acknowledgement. The exhibition did last for two days from morning till evening. People from all walks, especially the ones who are linked with the related industries visited the exhibition at different times.
 
The honorable guests included Mr. Anjum Nisar (President, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industries), Mr. Ajmal Cheema (Provincial Minister for Industries), Ms. Shehla Shahid Butt (Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare Department, Punjab), students of Creative Studies, key exporters & members of the LCC&I, renowned artists, professionals and industrialists. The Judges were Mr. Jamal Shah , Mr. Khawar Riaz and Mrs. Salima Hashmi.
 
The venue selected for the exhibition was the lawn of Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industries.
 
The different stalls were installed under the three main categories: ARTS , HANDY CRAFTS and FASHION & TEXTILE.
 
Students of renowned Art colleges, skill development institutes and fashion schools were invited to participate (including Hunerkada, Sanatzaar, NCA, Iqra University , Fashion Course students of BTEC Edexcel, House Wife Home, Defence Degree College Fine Arts Department and Qasar-e-Behbood).
 
The President of Chamber of Commerce (Mr. Anjum Nisar) inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon and visiting all the stalls. While appreciating the students' efforts, he said that he is delighted to see that both girls and boys are excelling in field of art and design. He assured “SAEL Movement” of his full cooperation in helping to promote work of young professionals with Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Pakistan.
 
The second day of the event was opened by the Provincial Minister for Industries (Mr. Ajmal Cheema) along with other professionals including senior journalists, key people from media and industrialists. Mr. Cheema also appreciated “SAEL” for arranging such an outstanding event with the theme of promoting the excellent skills & crafts of youth. He asked the SAEL team to provide the data of these young talented professionals for the entrepreneur department, which can then keep them informed about any such activity being organized. He said that government appreciates such efforts and wills to work collaboratively with SAEL to promote youth of the nation. He also announced a special monetary budget of the government to promote young people & artists establishing their own businesses.
 
Ms. Salima Hashmi, Mr. Khawar Riaz and Mr. Jamal Shah were the respected judges of the event. They appreciated the work & efforts of youth and encouraged such structured activities. Ms. Hashmi & Mr. Shah emphasized upon the challenges of current market forces and practical nature of Art in Pakistan and in global scenario. They advised students to focus on the need of the market while catering the needs of current trends and styles. Ms. Salima Hashmi specifically emphasized upon the practical aspects of any innovative creation and appreciated students who are trying to create genuine ideas. Mr. Khawar Riaz said that such exhibitions and efforts should be organized regularly so to promote talented youth of Pakistan as these opportunities will provide them with significant platforms to create links with industry. They also appreciated SAEL's efforts to provide the young professionals and students a chance to inspire and be inspired. The judges compiled their results mutually.
 
Ms. Shehla Shahid Butt (Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare, Government of Punjab) was the guest of the evening to close the event, along with Mr. Muhammad Iftikhar Pirzada (President of The SAEL Movement) and Mr. Muhammad Younas (Secretary of Chamber of Commerce).
 
Ms. Shahid said that she must have been here and enjoyed the festivity of the event for both days. She highly appreciated SAEL's efforts to provide youth an outstanding opportunity to exhibit their artistic creations. She said that she was not expecting such a gathering of young blood that is full of talents and aesthetics. The President of SAEL Mr. Pirzada said that SAEL is proud to arrange an activity which is welcomed warmly by all corners of society. He said that the work of every participant is exclusive and superior and that no one should feel disheartened on the results. He also appreciated the efforts and excellent teamwork of the staff and members of SAEL Movement. The President also thanked all the well wishers who supported to conduct the event especially the cooperative management of the chamber of commerce.
 
Ms. Shehla Shahid distributed the participation certificates to the 42 participants of the event. The first cash prizes (of Rs. 5000) out of the three was won by Ali , Ahsan , Zahida and Nadia of HUNERKADAH , the second by Zeeshan and Sayedah Habib of BTEC EDEXCEL and the third by Sameena Akhtar of BTEC EDEXCEL. All three cash prizes were rated equal and there were no rankings (as advised by the judges). The three runners up got shields including Lubna and Uzma of BTEC EDEXCEL as first runners up, Irum and Ayesha of SANAT ZAR as second runners up and Saira , Ayesha , Sidra and Saima of Defence Degree College as third runners up.
 
Special souvenirs for “Craft persons of the Event” were given to Mrs. Shehnaz Arshad for the BATIK Display (Textile Technique) and Mr. Syed Quddos for his outstanding art work.
Mrs. Shahnaz was the great attraction in the whole event. A very pleasant personality of 74 years, she works is BATIK a textile technique. She came all the way from Islamabad for participating and had a really good collection of her own processed pieces of batik work.
 
The event formally ended with the closing speech of Mr. Gouhar Iftikhar (Corporate Coordinator of SAEL) who appreciated the outstanding teamwork of ‘SAEL Family' and thanked all the supporters, participants, colleges and all the visitors who created the whole festivity of the event a remarkable memory. He also announced names of the members of SAEL Family to come forward (including Asad Mustafa, Farooq Azam, Nadia Imtiaz, Abbad Toor, Shaheen Babar, Saamia Sheikh, Fatimah Khan, Munir Ahmed, Ahsan Kamal, Muhammad Imran and Farhat Majeed). Ms. Farhat (Event Management Coordinator - SAEL) was given a commendation certificate for her hard work and efforts to make the exhibition, a success.
 
The turn over of the first day of event was approximately 700 visitors and on the second day, it increased to above 1200 visitors, making it an approximate of 2000 visitors. Many students were contacted by the exporters and industrialists, giving orders and offers for collaborations and business opportunities. On frequent requests of all participants, colleges and many visitors, SAEL announced another exhibition of “Art & Style” in very near future. However, the glorious memories of this fabulous event “Exhibition ART & STYLE 2003” shall be retained in the hearts and minds of all for a long time!
